Barnes & Thornburg’s fourth annual Spirit of Giving fundraising campaign raised over $290,000 for the firm’s Racial and Social Justice Foundation. The campaign, held from May 20-24, featured events and themed spirit days to encourage attorneys and business professionals across the firm to donate.
The Racial and Social Justice Foundation is nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting, advocating, and effecting racial and social justice in local communities and nationally.
“It is gratifying to see so many colleagues from across our firm’s geographic footprint contribute to this very important initiative,” said Connie A. Lahn, the Racial and Social Justice Foundation president and managing partner of Barnes & Thornburg’s Minneapolis office. “We are incredibly fortunate to have a shared belief and commitment to supporting organizations whose missions are to combat racial and social inequality and inequity.”
Since its inception in 2020, the Barnes & Thornburg Racial and Social Justice Foundation has awarded $1.1 million in grants to 21 nonprofits based in markets where the firm has offices. In 2023, grants were awarded in Ann Arbor, Nashville, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, and South Florida. The grants have supported efforts related to racial equity, incarceration, domestic violence, poverty, homelessness, and diversity in the legal profession, among other advocacy areas, and have garnered broad media attention, including in the Miami Times, Minnesota Lawyer, WNDU, and San Diego Business Journal.
The 2024 grantees will be announced at the end of this year.
