Barnes & Thornburg is pleased to announce that Jason M. Zucchi has joined as a partner in the firm’s Minneapolis office, further building out its bench as an intellectual property (IP) powerhouse with more than 200 IP attorneys, patent attorneys, agents, and other professionals across offices throughout the United States. Mr. Zucchi is the fourth lateral partner to join the firm’s Intellectual Property Department this year, following William Li and Robert Hilton in Dallas and Chris Hoff in Minneapolis.
Mr. Zucchi has nearly 17 years of experience successfully representing clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to startups in dozens of high-stakes IP cases. He has taken approximately 15 of those cases to trial in various forums throughout the country, including numerous federal district and state courts. He has significant experience with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including post-grant proceedings and coordinating pending district court litigation.
In addition, Mr. Zucchi’s practice focuses on IP diligence, licensing, patenting strategies, and counseling emerging businesses seeking to commercialize and protect their innovations. His practice spans a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, electronics, telecommunications, and life sciences.
“It’s been an incredible year of growth for our practice,” said Julia Gard, chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s Intellectual Property Department. “Jason is an excellent trial lawyer who brings a genuine passion for IP litigation and takes a unique approach to problem-solving, all of which will be a fantastic resource to our clients.”
Mr. Zucchi approaches litigation by creating the optimal case strategy focused on the issues that will have the greatest impact on the outcome of the case. Using this approach, he can often generate positive outcomes for his clients short of trial.
Mr. Zucchi’s recent courtroom successes include several eight-figure patent infringement verdicts on behalf of his medical device and automotive industry clients. Notably, Mr. Zucchi’s win in a long-running patent infringement case on behalf of a communication and power magnetics designer and manufacturer ultimately set a new U.S. Supreme Court standard for enhanced damages. By employing creative litigation strategies and out-of-the-box thinking, Jason is adept at securing fair settlement agreements for his clients.
“I’m thrilled to be part of Barnes & Thornburg,” Mr. Zucchi said. “The firm has some of the strongest IP litigators in the country, and I look forward to being part of its continued growth.”
“Jason is a key member of the Minneapolis legal community,” said Connie Lahn, managing partner of the firm’s Minneapolis office. “There’s no doubt he will be a valuable asset as we continue to expand our IP practice regionally and nationally.”
Mr. Zucchi earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2007 and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2002.
