Annual Civil Litigation Seminar Offers Updates, Practice Aids, Tips And Opportunities

The University of Texas School of Law has planned the Annual Page Keeton Civil Litigation seminar on Thursday and Friday, October 28 and 29, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin.

It will run from 9 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. on Friday.

Highlights of the seminar include Mark Lanier on the BP oil spill; Litigation Opportunities in Light of Health Care and Finance Reform; great papers, updates and practice aids for real-world litigators; and a wonderful venue - the Four Seasons Hotel on the shores of Austin's Lady Bird Lake.

On Thursday, topics include Texas Civil Procedure Update: Top Ten Tricks and Traps That Can Help You or Hurt You; Effective Advocacy: Maximizing the Value of Your Case; Pursuing and Defending Actions for Brand Disparagement and Business Interference; and Arbitration: The New Litigation?

Three experienced litigators - Craig D. Ball, attorney and forensic technologist, William J. Chriss, Gravely & Pearson, L.L.P., and Christopher W. Martin, Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom, L.L.P. - will offer 60 tips in 60 minutes, from both the plaintiff and defendant perspectives, including effective use of technology, website resources and discovery.

On Friday, Fashioning and Implementing the Litigation Hold, the Admissibility of Electronic Evidence: The Definitive Guide, How I Became a White-Collar Criminal Lawyer, and Issues and Problems Following Disqualification of Counsel are among the topics under discussion. Friday's luncheon presentation, BP Oil Spill and Environmental Claims: Case Construction and Communicating with the Modern Jury, will be presented by Mark Lanier of The Lanier Law Firm in Houston.
