Annual Agricultural Law Conference In Lubbock

The State Bar of Texas has scheduled the Annual John Huffaker Agricultural Law Course on Thursday and Friday, May 20 and 21, at the Texas Tech University School of Law in the Lanier Professional Development Center, 1802 Hartford Avenue in Lubbock.

The program will run from 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a Meet the Dean Social until 6:15. The day begins with an overview of livestock liens with John Huffaker ofSprouse Shrader Smith. Other topics on Thursday include Agricultural Biosecurity - Threats, Consequences, Mitigation; Landowner Liability and Agri-Tourism; Wind Energy Issues for Farmers and Ranchers; and an Update on Texas Organic Production Standards and Regulations. The luncheon presentation, an Update on New Programs and Regulations of the Texas Department of Agriculture, will be presented by Todd Staples, the commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture.

On Friday, the sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Among the topics are Conservation Easements from the Landowner's Perspective with David Bezanson of the Nature Conservancy, and Groundwater Issues Affecting Property Owners in Texas.
