Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Practice with the addition of Alan Bao as a partner in Beijing.
"We continue to see clients needing cross-border M&A advice in and out of China. Specifically, we have witnessed increased interest in China, and Asia-Pacific generally, from our Middle East investor clients," said White & Case partner John Reiss, Head of the Firm's Global M&A Practice. "Our established and well-respected M&A practice in China provides full-service deal execution for both inbound and outbound Chinese deals, and it is only right that we further expand it with on-the-ground corporate capabilities in Beijing through the addition of experienced M&A partner Alan Bao."
Alan advises corporates, buyer consortiums and financial institutions on M&A, capital markets and other general corporate matters. He has broad sector experience, including financial institutions, private equity, technology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare and energy. Alan joins White & Case from O'Melveny, where he was a partner.
"Alan's experience, technical skills and strong reputation make him a perfect fit to further grow our China M&A capabilities," said White & Case partner Vivian Tsoi, Regional Section Head, Asia-Pacific M&A/Corporate. "We will benefit from Alan's strong professional network in Beijing, while his clients and contacts will benefit from White & Case's global platform."
White & Case partner and Vice Chair Oliver Brettle said: "As the world's biggest economy by purchasing power parity and second largest economy by GDP, China is important for the Firm and the addition of Alan bolsters our M&A practice there, aligning with our global strategy of growth in M&A. Alan will work closely with our integrated M&A, private equity, capital markets, disputes and investment funds teams in China, as well as globally where his track record complements the Firm's reputation for handling complex high stakes transactions in the sectors where specific knowledge is required, including new economy industries such as energy transition, biotech and advanced manufacturing, and developed industries such as infrastructure and manufacturing services."
Alan's arrival follows a number of notable partner additions to the Firm's Global M&A Practice since the start of 2024, including Taurie Zeitzer in New York, Patrick Sarch in London, John Cahill in New York and Hong Kong and Sten Olsson in Helsinki.
