Akin Gump Names Trey Muldrow New York Office Partner in Charge

Akin Gump announced that corporate partner Ackneil M. (Trey) Muldrow III has been named partner in charge of the firm’s New York office, effective January 1, 2019. Mr. Muldrow takes over from Daniel H. Golden who has stepped down from the role after 14 years.

Launched in 1993 with a small number of lawyers focused on the funds space, the New York office has grown steadily over the years, celebrating its 25th anniversary this past May.

During Mr. Golden’s tenure as partner in charge, Akin Gump’s New York office grew by more than 60 percent to 250 lawyers and became the firm’s second-largest office. At the same time, the firm continued expanding and developing a number of powerhouse practices in New York, including financial restructuring, which Mr. Golden co-chairs; corporate; investment management; IP; tax; and litigation.

The office also developed a strong reputation for workplace satisfaction during Mr. Golden’s tenure, placing among the top 10 firms in New York in The American Lawyer’s most recent associate satisfaction survey.

“Danny has been a steady presence guiding our growth in New York, and we are all thankful for—and appreciative of—his tremendous dedication to our clients, lawyers and staff,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Having worked alongside both of them for many years, I know Trey will do an equally outstanding job. He is a well-accomplished lawyer who already serves in several leadership capacities, both within and outside of the firm. I look forward to his guidance and leadership as Akin Gump moves into the next quarter century and beyond in New York.”

Mr. Muldrow’s practice concentrates on the corporate aspects of sophisticated business transactions, including buyouts, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and fund restructurings, for a range of global clients. Mr. Muldrow is also active in the philanthropic community, serving as vice chairman of the board of directors of the Dance Theatre of Harlem and as a member of the boards of directors of Friends of the High Line and Friends of the Legal Resources Centre of South Africa.

Mr. Golden remains co-chair of Akin Gump’s global financial restructuring practice, primarily representing creditors’ committees and bondholder committees in large, complex out-of-court restructurings and Chapter 11 cases.
