AFLA Elects Three Officers



The American Foreign Law Association, Inc. (AFLA), has elected three new officers: Andrew L. Odell, a partner at Bryan Cave LLP, has been elected president; Michael Patrick, a partner at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, P.C., has been elected treasurer, and Victor Xercavins, a partner in the New York office of Madrid-based Cuatrecasas, has been elected secretary.


Formed in 1925, the AFLA focuses on issues relevant to foreign, international and comparative law of importance to the legal profession. The AFLA promotes the understanding and application of international law, cooperates with other professional organizations and supports relevant legal research and writing. Monthly meetings typically include leading U.S. and foreign practitioners and academics addressing a broad range of public and private international legal topics.


Mr. Odell, previously vice-president and treasurer of AFLA, represents foreign corporations, banks and other financial institutions in commercial matters, investments and the resolution of disputes in the United States and in cross-border negotiations. His concentration is in international banking and corporate matters, international capital markets and foreign sovereign/diplomatic law. Among other professional involvements, Mr. Odell is a director of the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Association of New York, Inc.
