Event Details

Getting professional help for a substance use or a mental health disorder is just the first step on a lifelong journey. This episode will delve into how employers can best support employees who are actively seeking treatment for or working to maintain recovery from one or more of these issues. Our panel of experts will discuss best practices for maintaining well-being including:

  • Understanding early and long-term recovery cornerstones
    • Identifying and treating a problem
    • Medical leaves and returns to work
    • Life in recovery with physical health issues need to be continually managed
  • Supporting employees seeking or maintaining recovery
    • Internal resources – policies and culture
      • Support from colleagues (for those who choose to share their stories with colleagues) – and educating colleagues on what substance use and mental health disorders are and are not, as well as what recovery means
      • Support from Management/HR – clear policies, stigma breaking efforts, walking the walk and modeling
      • Wellness programs
    • External resources
      • EAPs – ensure they’re understood throughout the organization
      • LAPs – invite them in for topical discussions
      • Ongoing outpatient and/or therapist
      • Recovery coaches
      • Digital tools to self-monitor and identify unhealthy actions/thinking
