One-Day ACR GNY Conference Features "Seeds of Peace"



The Greater New York Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR GNY) will host a one-day conference on conflict, impasse and resolution entitled: Spanning The Globe: What Works In Dispute Resolution on Friday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Columbia Law School, 435 West 116th Street New York City. ACR is a not-for-profit professional organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of peaceful, effective conflict resolution.


Recent conflicts throughout the world have had profound and unsettling effects on our view of the future.Featured as this year's plenary presentation is a film by "Seeds of Peace," the nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering international leaders of the next generation.Seeds of Peace brings together future leaders (selected and designated as such by their governments) to meet the human face of "the other" - often those they were raised to fear and hate.By dispelling the fear, mistrust, and prejudice, root causes of violence and conflict, Seeds of Peace endeavors to ensure that the future is in the hands of friends rather than enemies.Since 1993, this organization has graduated over 2,500 teenagers, raised in one of four major conflict regions, from its internationally recognized leadership program.The workshops explore concepts such as lawyers as peacemakers andmarketing mediation.


The Honorable Helen Freedman, Justice New York State Supreme Court, will be the Conference keynote speaker.
