NY Bar Foundation Given Scholarship Funds

The New York Bar Foundation has received a gift from the law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C., to establish the Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship. The $2,500 award will be available to second-year law students attending a law school in New York state and presented to the student who exhibits excellence in legal writing and advocacy skills.

Robert L. Haig, president of The Foundation and a partner at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, said: "We are gratified to accept this scholarship gift in Judge Meyer's name. This is one example of the kinds of important and exciting initiatives that have been designed to stimulate the growth of The Foundation's endowment and better serve New York's legal profession, the justice system and the community."

Mr. Haig said in addition to the Meyer scholarship, a fund to improve legal services for the indigent has been created in the name of Judge Richard J. Bartlett of Glens Falls. There is also a restricted fund to provide legal services to families and children of indigent prisoners established in the name of former state Senator John R. Dunne of Albany.Mr. Haig's law firm is funding scholarships for minority law students through The Foundation.
