The California Consumer Privacy Act Has Teeth: What You Need to Know to Comply
Event Details
On May 30th, Stradling Yocca’s Newport Beach office will be hosting a breakfast briefing on the California Consumer Privacy Act, which is slated to take effect on January 1, 2020. Given its broad scope, vague terms, and a generous delegation of rule-making authority to the California Attorney General’s Office, companies need to begin preparing now for implementation. While not quite as ambitious as Europe’s GDPR, the CCPA imposes significant new data protection obligations on a wide swath of businesses and creates new penalties for data breaches. Travis Brennan, Chair of the firm’s Privacy & Data Security practice, and Stephen Kong, Chair of the firm’s Technology Transactions practice and former in-house attorney at Sony, will provide an overview of the statute and detail steps companies should take to comply with the new law.
2 hours of general California CLE credit are available.
