RSAC 2025
kicked off yesterday in San Francisco, gathering over 44,000 cybersecurity professionals, including representatives from the FBI and national cybersecurity teams from Germany and Spain.

Cisco's Foundation-sec-8B: Open-Source AI for Cybersecurity

Jeetu Patel, Cisco's Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer, introduced Foundation-sec-8B, an open-source, 8-billion-parameter AI model specifically designed for cybersecurity applications. This model is trained on a curated dataset encompassing vulnerability databases, threat intelligence reports, and security tooling documentation. By releasing it as open source, Cisco encourages industry-wide collaboration to address AI-related security challenges.

Trellix Highlights Nation-State Cyber Threats

John Fokker, Head of Threat Intelligence at Trellix, presented "The Intelligence War: Winning Against Nation-States," discussing the increasing convergence between cybercriminal groups and nation-state actors. He emphasized the necessity of strategic, operational, and collaborative intelligence to counter these sophisticated threats, highlighting the role of the cybersecurity community in mapping adversaries' tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to enhance collective defense.

Hugh Thompson Emphasizes Community and Adaptability

Opening the conference, RSAC Executive Chairman Hugh Thompson underscored the essential role of community-driven innovation and rapid adaptability in effectively countering evolving cybersecurity threats, setting an urgent tone of collective responsibility and action for attendees.
