USPTO Announces Plan To Open Regional Office In Silicon Valley

The United States Patent and Trademark Office announced July 2, 2012, that it will be opening three additional regional offices: Denver, CO, Dallas, TX and San Jose, CA (Silicon Valley) join the previously announced Detroit, Michigan office (opening July 13, 2012).

These regional offices will help the USPTO further implement the goals and objectives of the America Invents Act. The offices will attract talented IP experts throughout the country who will work closely with entrepreneurs to process patent applications, reduce the backlog of unexamined patents, speed up the overall process, and allow businesses to move their innovations to market more quickly. With twenty-five percent of the United States origin patents coming from the state of California, three times more patent filings than any other state, the San Jose location will be well situated to serve California businesses and high-tech startups.

A broad coalition of Silicon Valley business and academic leaders aggressively campaigned for the designation of Silicon Valley as one of the three new regional offices. Use this link to read more about the proposed offices and the selection process: www.uspto.gov/news/pr/2012/12-40.jsp.
