How Lawyers Can Increase Effectiveness and Enjoyment: Using Applied Ethics in Your Day-to-Day Practice is the title of an intermediate-level CLE seminar being offered this month by the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) in two locations.
The sessions will take place on Monday, November 15 at the Forum Conference Center, East 9th and St. Clair streets, Cleveland, and on Tuesday, November 16 at the OSBA offices, 1700 Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, OH. Each session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m.
The course is designed to help attorneys learn how to discover realistic and practical core values that will enhance buy-in and help develop common goals, practice a proven and simple ethics audit that will streamline decision-making and allow for greater participation by firm or department members, and learn a values audit that gauges "wellness" and enables attorneys to address critical topics in an effective, timely and positive manner.
The featured speaker will be Arthur Gross Schaeffer, an associate with Frank Sanitate Associates. Some of his topics of discussion will include:
- Winning the war but not losing the battles - why successful attorneys use ethics as a proactive means to create a positive and productive environment;
- Looking in the mirror - how much of the discontent in the legal profession is a product of cognitive dissonance;
- Which way do I go? - stop making hard decisions in an ineffective manner and start using a quicker and more-effective decision-making model;
- Ohio rules of professional conduct.
