Seminar Will Examine Financial Statement Fraud

The Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel America this month is planning a CLE presentation titled Understanding Financial Statement Fraud.

The program will take place on Thursday, March 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prestonwood Country Club, 15909 Preston Road, North Dallas, TX.

The presentation will be led by Jeffrey Harfenist, UHY-Mann Frankfort Stein & Kipp Advisors. Mr. Harfenist currently is leading a team of 40 forensic and document management specialists examining the alleged role the investment banking community may have played in the financial statement manipulations and subsequent collapse at Enron and Dynegy. In 2002, Mr. Harfenist supervised four investigative teams looking into alleged accounting and financial statement fraud at Tyco, Ltd.

Through the use of numerous real-world examples from recent investigations, this seminar begins with a brief discussion of the conditions necessary for fraud to take hold and flourish, while focusing primarily on the range of methods employed by management to distort their financial results.
