Seminar Examines Attorney-Client Privilege

"The doctrine of attorney-client privilege is being assaulted like never before," attorney Bruce Goldstein told a group of New Jersey in-house attorneys at a gathering in Iselin last month sponsored by the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association (NJCCA).

The program, moderated by Bruce J. Hector, associate general counsel, Becton-Dickinson Corporation, was titled The Aftermath of SARBOX: Rights, Responsibilities and Ethical Dilemmas Confronting In-House Counsel.

Among the topics discussed in the wide-ranging presentation and panel discussion were: How SARBOX has altered the attorney-client relationship; the changing dynamics between in-house counsel and the corporation; controlling interactions among the various parties in an investigation; creating and sustaining a compliant corporate culture; and avoiding civil, criminal, regulatory and malpractice liability.
