PROXY Governance Chairman Among‘Top Corporate Governance Watch Dogs’

PROXY Governance, a leading proxy advisory firm, has announced that Jim Melican, chairman of PROXY Governance, was included as one of the top Corporate Governance Watch Dogs in the inaugural list in Directorship’s September 2007 cover story.

Directorship 100 was compiled by editors based on input from a reader poll and a panel of 12 corporate governance experts.

Prior to joining PROXY Governance, Mr. Melican was executive vice president of International Paper Company, where he was responsible for the company’s legal, corporate secretary and investor relations functions, as well as many other administrative and operating units.

Mr. Melican has been a recognized expert on corporate governance for two decades He served on an American Bar Association select committee that contributed to the American Law Institute’s Principles of Corporate Governance, and is a life member of the A.L.I. He also served as co-chairman of the American Bar Association’s Corporate Governance Committee and as a member of the ABA’s task force that wrote and published the last three editions of the Corporate Directors’ Guidebook. He is a former member of the Lawyers’ Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Melican has been a frequent conference speaker and author of articles on corporate governance.
