Cozen O'Connor has announced that firm member Denise H. Houghton has transferred from the insurance department to the firm's health law practice group, expanding the firm's ability to represent the full range of profit and nonprofit health care organizations in all types of transactional and regulatory matters, and health care-related litigation.

A registered nurse-turned-lawyer, Ms. Houghton concentrates her practice in health care litigation as well as regulatory and other corporate issues affecting the industry. For the last 15 years, she has represented major international pharmaceutical manufacturers in cases involving immunization litigation, tissue banking, and the drug Baycol. She has represented medical devices manufacturers in cases including cardiac guidewires, stents, intraocular lenses and orthopedic implants.

Presently, Ms. Houghton is an adjunct professor at Drexel University where she teaches school law and politics. She is also a board member of the North Ardmore Civic Association and vice president of the Trinity Playgroup. Ms. Houghton has served on the board of Philadelphia Community Health Alternatives, as well as on the Ethics Committee of Living Independently for Elders at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She is a former recipient of the MEDMARC Attorney of the Year for achieving excellence in the field of life science technology defense.

Cozen O'Connor has responded to the need for legal representation of the most vulnerable victims, abused and neglected children. By launching its Signature Pro Bono Program in Child Advocacy, 14 Cozen O'Connor attorneys from its West Conshohocken (PA) office have volunteered to become members of the Child Advocacy Project. This makes Cozen O'Connor the leading law firm working as child advocates in Montgomery County.

The program was officially launched September 21, with a daylong training session at the firm's West Conshohocken office.

Cozen O'Connor will also sponsor a fundraiser in the fall for the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project, established by the Montgomery Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Montgomery Bar Association. The cost of the event, which will be held at the firm's West Conshohocken office, will be underwritten completely by Cozen O'Connor.
