Letter From The President Of The Association Of Corporate Counsel Quebec Chapter

To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is a global bar association of in-house counsel with more than 30,000 members in over 75 countries. The ACC Quebec Chapter is part of the ACC and is proud to serve as an in-house association for attorneys who practice in legal departments of corporations and other private sector organizations in the Province of Quebec, Canada. With over 235 members, we are now one of four Canadian ACC chapters serving the Canadian in-house community, which represents over 1100 members in over 450 corporations. With the growing number of in-house counsel, there has never been a greater need for an organization like the ACC to represent their interests and assist in their daily activities.

With the recent launch of a new chapter in Alberta on July 1, 2014, this is a good time to reflect on the great progress made by the ACC in Quebec and across Canada.  Over the past 12 months or so, the ACC Quebec Chapter has grown its membership by 10 percent and has held over a dozen events ranging from educational and professional development to social networking opportunities. Our educational and professional development programs are tailored specifically to the needs and interests of in-house counsel in Quebec and are provided in French and in English.  Our social networking events allow the Quebec in-house community to meet and share ideas and best practices. These accomplishments would not have been possible if it was not for the determination and dedication of our board members and the support of our sponsors.

In line with the long-standing philosophy of the ACC of giving back to society, recently, the chapter, in association with one of its Platinum sponsors, organized a social and networking event at a restaurant in Montreal, staffed almost exclusively by volunteers.  All of the profits of the event were redistributed to local charities who work with the community to ward off solitude, social isolation and poverty.  The event was a great success and enjoyed by all.

It’s my privilege to serve as the 2014 president of the Quebec Chapter and to work with this year’s board of directors to continue to offer our members and the Quebec in-house community the high level of services, programs, events and representations they have come to expect from our chapter over the years.
