Letter From The President Of The Association of Corporate Counsel - Delaware Valley Chapter (DELVACCA)

To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

DELVACCA is proud to serve as the in-house bar association for attorneys who practice in legal departments of corporations and other private sector organizations in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.   With over 1200 members, we are one of the ten largest chapters of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), which has 54 regional chapters in the United States and more than 30,000 members in over 75 countries, employed by over 10,000 organizations.

We have many accomplishments to celebrate as an organization. We are proud to have won the prestigious Large Chapter of the Year Award from the ACC in 2008, 2010 and again in 2012. This award is significant because it recognizes the incredible accomplishments that the Chapter has achieved in recent years, thanks to the generosity and support of our esteemed sponsors.   These awards are indicative of the Chapter’s goals of delivering top-notch, cutting-edge CLE programs and membership benefits to our members.  In 2012, we also held 76 separate events for our members, including a diverse offering of free CLE programs tailored specifically to the needs and interests of in-house counsel.   We held our first Gala fundraiser for the benefit of a newly established endowment fund to support DELVACCA’s internship program.   This type of success and progress as an organization can only be accomplished with the dedication and efforts of an outstanding group of leaders.

Looking ahead to 2013, we have a very full calendar planned, including some new program offerings.  I’m pleased to announce the launch of the new IT, Privacy and eCommerce Practice Group, which will provide programs relating to current issues in information technology, data protection, privacy, ecommerce, outsourcing, the Internet and related areas.  We will again present our Institute Series, a half-day program for each of our practice groups, consisting of three one-hour CLE presentations.   We will continue the Business Skills Institutes with new topics, including a GC Boot Camp (offering perspectives from the C-Suite) and Negotiation Skills. The popular Annual In-House Counsel Conference (April 23), which offers a full day of CLE, breakfast, lunch and cocktail reception (all free of charge to members), will feature expanded tracks and more program choices.   Of course, we will continue our signature Meet Your Counterparts networking receptions to be held in various locations throughout DELVACCA’s region, among our many other social and networking opportunities.  DELVACCA is proud to be one of the founding chapters of ACC, and we look forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary this year with a very special end-of-year Anniversary Gala, which will continue as a fundraiser to benefit our award winning diversity and law school initiatives.

DELVACCA has been strong in providing programming and networking membership benefits, and we will ensure that our focus on the community stays equally strong this year.  DELVACCA is a growing and influential organization with resources to contribute to the legal, business and local communities in which we work and live.  To this end, we will continue some of our important initiatives, including the DELVACCA Diversity Internship Program and the Street Law Program.  We will continue to raise awareness of pro bono opportunities for members and continue our advocacy efforts on legal issues of importance to our members.

It’s my privilege to serve as the 2013 president of DELVACCA and to work with this year’s board of directors for continued growth and success.  Please look to our website (http://www.acc.com/chapters/del/) for membership information and upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Grace P. Manno
