To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

I have very much enjoyed these first seven months as President of the European Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. It is a very rewarding experience to lead this unique, truly pan-European in-house counsel association.

With 1,800 members, the ACC Europe chapter is the largest chapter of ACC outside the USA; a chapter that differentiates itself by its cultural openness. Our members come from more than 30 different countries. A variety of 10 nationalities and languages are represented at the ACC Europe Board level only. Diversity is no longer a concept but an enriching reality as each Board member has the invaluable opportunity to contribute country-specific views and perspectives, which become pan-European, to address the needs of the broader membership.

It is currently a very busy time for the Chapter with our upcoming annual conference, which will take place from the 13th to the 15th of May, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. (www.acc.com/amsterdam).

For the past 19 years, the annual ACC Europe conference has offered opportunities to discuss current issues and trends in the European Union and beyond. The conference’s theme this year focuses on how corporate counsel can deliver results while facing global demands. Nowadays the speed of new legislation in one country, or on a European basis, is breathtaking and even new national laws can prove to have impact in other jurisdictions (e.g. UK anti-bribery act, data privacy EU/national reforms).  Our conference allows the exchange of best practices with other European in-house counsel and offers an international dimension to peer discussions. It is also a great opportunity to learn from highly experienced, international in-house counsel from a broad range of industries who are keen to share their expertise and experience. Let’s not forget that the social events at the conference provide a great and fun way to network!

Members can also enjoy the national programs put together thanks to the hard work of our country representatives who act as “ambassadors” by organizing local events and showcasing the benefits of belonging to ACC Europe. More than 20 events are currently planned for the rest of the year and additional ones are in the pipeline.

ACC Europe members can also share information per country and/or subject of expertise on our LinkedIn group. In addition, in these difficult economic times, one of our goals is to facilitate the meeting of job offers and demands and our LinkedIn group will be our main platform to do so.

Our Chapter is growing stronger every year with benefits to members constantly added and we look forward to meeting our members and sponsors at our annual conference and/or national events.
