To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel :

ACC Greater New York Chapter On The Rise!

As many of you are aware, the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of in-house attorneys. The ACC promotes the common interests of its members, provides resources to help save time, money and effort, contributes to its members' continuing education, helps them succeed in their careers and provides a voice on issues of national and international importance.

As the president of ACC's Greater New York Chapter (ACC-GNY), which serves New York City and Long Island, I wanted to let you know about some exciting developments at the ACC-GNY.

Over the past year, our chapter's membership has grown from 1,356 to 1,475, an 8.8 percent net increase. There is a new vitality within our chapter - a testament to the dedication of our board, our sponsors and our members. For the full year 2011, we will have presented, with our sponsors, over 40 hours of CLE, in events ranging from one to two hours in length to half-day events dedicated to ethics and compliance. Over the past year, we have established and reignited ten practice groups, and continue to support our members in transition. ACC-GNY CLE and practice group events have provided a great opportunity for members not only to gain CLE credits and stay up to date on legal developments, but also to meet new colleagues, network and have some fun! And, of course, there is the added benefit - there is no charge for members to attend any of ACC-GNY's programs and events!

As we look forward, this fall we will be holding our annual meeting in conjunction with our Ethics Marathon on November 2, 2011, from 2:00 until 5:30 p.m. at Sentry Centers, 810 Seventh Avenue in New York City. The Ethics Marathon is one of the chapter's signature events. This year's theme is The Dirty Dozen, a three hour program featuring 12 hot ethical issues and how to handle them. We are expecting a very large turn out. Of course, during the annual meeting, new board members will be up for election. We urge all members to attend the annual meeting, and get involved! We are also planning our annual Compliance Seminar, a full-day program on Global Trends in Litigation, a wide range of individual CLE programs, and a significant special event to take place in early 2012 focused on community outreach and pro bono opportunities for our members. Further details will be provided on our website, www.accgny.com, and in future issues of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.

It has been my pleasure to serve as president of the chapter during the past two years. I am very proud of the efforts of my fellow board members and, frankly, all of our members (because we are emphatically a member-driven organization). Soon I will be handing over the reins of the chapter to Vincent Castiglione, one of the chapter's current vice presidents. I am confident that Vince will be successful in continuing the ACC-GNY's upward swing.

If you are not an ACC member, I hope you will join, and if you are a member, I hope to see you soon at one of our events.
