To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel :

This month I take over as president of the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, and I look forward to the challenges and responsibilities of this position. I am coming into the presidency at a propitious time for the NJCCA: Membership is at a record level, and New Jersey's recently instituted mandatory continuing legal education has increased interest in the many CLE programs that NJCCA provides, including our premier event, the annual all-day CLE conference held every September. I have the great fortune to follow in the footsteps of a series of excellent former NJCCA presidents, including the immediate outgoing president, Evan Turtz, and to have the support of our superb board of directors, executive committee and executive director, Gail Girard.

The challenge for me will be not only to maintain the high level of quality and service provided by my predecessors, but also to continue to improve upon past successes and provide even greater service to the membership. With these considerations in mind, I have developed the following list of the top ten things I hope to accomplish as NJCCA president:

1. Continue to provide value as the only New Jersey-based association serving the needs of the in-house corporate community.

2. Continue the many successes of the immediate past presidents, including steadily increasing the NJCCA's membership and providing networking opportunities for our members throughout the year. I think that the opportunity to network with in-house and outside counsel at events and programs is one of the unique and most important benefits of an NJCCA membership.

3. Continue to provide our four premier events: the annual all-day CLE conference in September, the Annual Dinner in November (with CLE offered), the Spring Cocktail Reception in May (with CLE offered), and the Golf Outing in June.

4. Continue to provide - and increase and enhance - the many CLE programs offered to in-house counsel throughout the year, including in-person programs and non-traditional format programs such as webinars or links to programs online.

5. Continue to provide - and increase and enhance - community outreach, diversity, and pro bono endeavors.

6. Maintain and develop relationships with the law firm and legal service provider communities.

7. Utilize the creativity of our members to redesign the NJCCA's website and monthly newsletter.

8. Maintain and promote NJCCA's visibility on a regional and national level, whether through publication of timely articles in this magazine or active participation in national ACC initiatives and events.

9. Maintain and increase opportunities for members to become actively involved in NJCCA activities and governance, and actively seek out the next generation of NJCCA leadership.

10. Continue to provide what we believe to be the only in-house corporate counsel cartoon in the nation, "Overruled!" (written and drawn by me).
