The UK public opinion, media attention and parliamentary scrutiny have turned in recent years strongly against tax planning, equating it with immoral behavior and seeking to illegetimize it irrespective of questions of legality. At the same time, the UK government has been trying, successfully so far as legislation is concerned, to make the UK more attractive as a jurisdiction for holding companies. The tension between these will be discussed with an attempt to draw the right divides.
