As the global economy continues to develop, more and more employers are sending employees abroad to identify potential business opportunities, learn the culture of corporate headquarters, or manage a subsidiary abroad. However, this involves more than simply maintaining the employment relationship and sending the employee overseas; it implicates labor and employment laws, as well as immigration and tax laws, and it often generates substantial unexpected costs for employers. This session highlights the logistical complications and legal risk inherent in engaging workers abroad, particularly in jurisdictions where an employer does not have an established presence, and will provide cost-effective solutions to mitigate risk and resolve the business considerations driving the mobility assignment at the outset.
