Outside counsel must know inside counsel's expectations and inside counsel must know her internal client's expectations and communicate to outside counsel what is expected of him.  This proposition seems simple, but invariably both inside and outside counsel become so busy that each assumes that outside counsel knows these expectations and will meet them.  Sometimes this happens, sometimes it does not.  Clearly, however, the best practice is for inside and outside counsel to develop a working relationship that includes blunt communication about the expectations, legally, relationally, and financially, that outside counsel must meet.  In this CLE presentation, the speakers will address the various issues that arise in the working relationship between inside and outside counsel, and how to manage those issues in a manner that guarantees the delivery of outstanding legal services to the client.
