The Partnership is honoring Brackett B. Denniston III, senior vice president and general counsel of GE and Brad S. Karp, chairman of Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP.  Jeffrey R. Immelt, chairman & CEO, GE and Stephen M. Cutler, executive vice president & general counsel, JPMorgan Chase & Co. are dinner chairs for the celebration.

Since 1997, the Partnership has provided free legal advice to hundreds of nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry, house the homeless, promote the arts, protect the environment and provide essential programs to children, the elderly, immigrants, the disabled and the unemployed, in part by mobilizing the pro bono services of more than 900 attorneys from major corporations and law firms each year. These attorneys, who volunteer their services to the Partnership’s clients, help nonprofits to carry out their programs effectively, while allowing them to preserve their limited resources for programs that improve the social fabric in hundreds of communities in the New York tri-state area.  The Partnership provides nearly all of its services without charge and will use the proceeds of this Gala to help support these services.

Mr. Brackett Denniston, a member of the Partnership’s board since 2005, joined GE in 1996 and served as vice president and senior counsel for litigation until 2004 when he was named senior vice president and general counsel. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Brackett has demonstrated a staunch commitment to public service. Under his leadership, in 2007, GE’s in-house legal department was named the Best Legal Department by Corporate Counsel for “its singular ability to be both a visionary and an implementer.” Prior to joining GE, Denniston served as chief legal counsel to Massachusetts Governor William Weld. In 2010, when he received an award for his exceptional pro bono service, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg lauded him as a “pro bono champion” and praised his deep commitment to justice and the spirit of the law.

Mr. Brad Karp has achieved national prominence as both a litigator and corporate adviser.  He has been profiled as one of the leading lawyers in the United States by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, The American Lawyer, Crain’s, The National Law Journal and many more publications. Mr. Karp is active in the community, serving as Director/Trustee of The Legal Action Center, The Riverdale Country School, The Partnership for New York City, American Friends of Hebrew University, The New York Bar Foundation, The Program Advisory Board of the Brennan Center for Justice and The United States Supreme Court Historical Society.
