The Practising Law Institute is offering a three-day live program titled Counseling Clients in the Entertainment Industry 2012. The seminar is located at PLI’s New York Center, 810 Seventh Avenue in New York City. It will also be available as a live video webcast. Day one begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. Day two and three run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The first day will focus on the field of television, video and user-generated content, videogames, computer entertainment and building an entertainment practice. The morning session will address high-level issues in entertainment industry transactions and will cover legal and business trends in the television and video industries. The afternoon seminar will feature a panel discussion of how to develop and grow an entertainment practice.

Day two will offer updates in the sound recording and music publishing business. The morning will be geared toward a basic understanding of artist-record company agreements with a mock negotiation, and discussion of the digital distribution of sound recordings. The afternoon will provide an overview of music publishing terms, concepts and contracts.

The final day will cover book publishing, sports law and the film industry. Speakers will provide an overview of book publishing agreements and developments in the industry. This will be followed by updates to issues in sports law involving the use of an athlete’s image and the right to publicity. The seminar will end with a review of the motion picture industry, including new terms, concepts, financing issues and production and distribution matters.
