The NYSBA has scheduled a program titled Employment at Will and New York State Exceptions. The seminar is on Friday, December 2, at the New York Marriott Brooklyn, 333 Adams Street in Brooklyn, New York. It starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m.

This three-hour program will address the protections or exceptions afforded by case law and New York statutes regarding the employment at-will doctrine. Starting with a detailed review and update of the New York State approach to employment at- will, this program will then present the statutory exceptions to this doctrine, such as the Lawful Activities Law, the “whistleblowing” protection under the    labor law, and various other and less widely known protections. The program will also briefly review federal protection in this area. A knowledge and understanding of these provisions will assist in representing clients in these difficult economic times.

The speakers are Hon. Katherine A. Levin, civil court, Kings County; Philip L. Maier, regional director, NYS Public Employment Relations Board; and Gary Minda, professor of law, Brooklyn Law School.

To register for this seminar visit www.nysba.org or call (518) 463-3200.
