The International Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual International Arbitration in Latin America Conference Sunday, November 6 through Tuesday, November 8 at the Ritz-Carlton in South Beach, Miami.

Day one begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Day two begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m., and day three begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.

The conference opens with a review of the ICC Rules of Arbitration, which are used worldwide to resolve hundreds of business disputes each year. These rules have been newly revised to take account of current requirements and developments in arbitration practice and procedure since the last revision in 1998.

The new rules are the result of two years of active work within the ICC Commission on Arbitration. The opening segment will explain changes made to the rules in its third revision, and will be the first opportunity for practitioners to acquire a comprehensive overview of the changes in readiness for subsequent entry into force of the new rules.

The next two days of the conference will be a forum for understanding international commercial arbitration in Latin America, and will provide an update on the developments in the region. Highlights include the impact of Brazilian investment in Latin America on dispute resolution, drafting arbitration clauses for complex transactions, arbitrating telecommunications disputes in Latin America, and ethics from the perspective of Latin American culture.

Among the faculty are John Beechey, chairman, ICC International Court of Arbitration; John L. Sander, vice president and associate general counsel, Merck & Co.; Martim Della Valle, general counsel, AMBEV; and Margrete Stevens, King & Spalding.
