On Tuesday, October 11, The Pennsylvania Bar Institute offers a one-hour seminar focusing on trial techniques. The seminar begins at 4:00 p.m. at the PBI CLE Conference Center located in the Wanamaker Building in central Philadelphia.

F. Lee Bailey and his former law partner, Hon. Kenneth J. Fishman, justice, Superior Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, longtime authors of law books for the West Publishing Company, are writing a book (due in 2012) explaining and encouraging excellence in cross-examination. This treatise will probably differ from books previously published on the subject because the first section will feature an in-depth study of the tools that every high-level cross-examiner must understand and master, including a formidable command of the language, and intricate familiarity with the phenomenon of memory -- as it applies to both cross-examiners and witnesses -- and the absolute necessity of in-depth investigation and preparation.

The one-hour presentation will highlight the methods, techniques and risks of real-time cross-examinations and offer a useful path to those who realize that maturing to the standing of a feared cross-examiner is, at the end of the day, well worth the considerable time and effort required.

Also speaking are Hon. Correale F. Stevens, president judge, Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and Rudolph Garcia, chancellor, Philadelphia Bar Association, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney P.C.
