Red Cross Offers "Heartfelt Thanks" For Legal Community's Efforts In Winter Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region (ARC-PJ), wishes to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the legal community for rising to the "Winter Challenge" and helping to collect much of the life-saving blood it needed this past winter. A large number of firms in the Delaware Valley participated in the eight week-long event, which was sponsored by the Red Cross Legal Initiative Advisory Committee, and supported by the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers' Division, the Philadelphia office of American Lawyer Media, publisher of The Legal Intelligencer, and The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.

Thanks to the following firms that took part in the Challenge: Ballard Spahr Andrews and Ingersoll, Blank Rome, Cozen O'Connor, Dechert LLP, Drinker Biddle & Reath, Duane Morris, Fox Rothschild, Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads, Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel, Pepper Hamilton, Post & Schell, Rawle & Henderson, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, White & Williams, and WolfBlock.

And a special thanks to these firms that led the blood collections with during this challenge:

The top two firms that scheduled the most donors for their sponsored drives are Cozen O'Connor and WolfBlock.

The following firms exceeded their target goals: Cozen O'Connor, WolfBlock and Fox Rothschild.

"I was honored to work with so many dedicated members of the legal community during this challenge," said Jen Cantafio, account manager of the ARC-PJ. "Because of their efforts, there were 16 drives across law firms this winter, and more than 783 total people signed up to give blood."

"We so appreciated the spirit and passion that the legal community offered us," said Brigid O'Neill-LaGier, CEO of the ARC-PJ. "Clearly it helped the American Red Cross to open new doors and solidify existing relationships with firms that we believe will help us meet our community's blood collection needs now and in the future."

Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days. Donors can give blood at any one of nearly 200 bloodmobiles sponsored by business and community groups in southeastern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey weekly, or at one of nine community donor centers.
