On June 11, 2014, Goldman Sachs and Clifford Chance partnered on a Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks pro bono legal project to assist undocumented immigrant crime victims to file applications for legal immigration status through a legal clinic held at My Sisters' Place. Community TeamWorks is the Goldman Sachs global volunteer initiative that allows employees to take a day out of the office each year and spend it on volunteering with local nonprofit organizations.
This project was in collaboration with My Sisters’ Place, whose Immigration Practice specializes in providing a range of legal services to immigrant victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
The full-day event featured thirteen volunteer attorneys, three volunteer translators, nine U-Visa clinic clients with their supportive families, and one extra-specially cute two-month-old girl. What does this work mean? It means that nine undocumented immigrant crime victims took a huge step forward in applying for legal immigration status to help them live a life free of abuse.
