The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association is the foremost member organization and voice for in-house counsel in Canada.

Established in 1988, we continue to show phenomenal growth. Currently, we have more than 10,300 members; in the past three years, we have attracted more than 2,000 new members.

We are a national association. Our membership comprises corporate counsel employed in virtually every industry in Canada, encompassing private and public businesses, non-profit organizations, municipalities and crown corporations. Our members also include associate members from law firms whose support and expertise enrich our educational programs and events.

What continues to power our growth is that, since our inception, we have steadfastly maintained our focus: we provide Canadian corporate counsel with the most current and detailed information affecting our profession, along with industry-leading and, where applicable, accredited Continuing Legal Education.

As an example: we've conducted the In-House Counsel Compensation & Career Survey , the first comprehensive Canadian-focused corporate counsel compensation survey.

Developed with The Counsel Network and conducted by Ipsos-Reid, this survey is groundbreaking. For the first time, Canadian corporate counsel will be able to access valuable knowledge about salary, benefits and working conditions of their fellow corporate counsel by industry group and geography.

This new survey complements our annual - and significantly expanded - In-House Counsel Barometer , developed with Davies Ward Phillips Vineberg LLP, that measures the pulse of the current state of in-house counsel.

Another example: last January CCCA held the world's first Corporate Counsel World Summit . With input from our international sister corporate counsel associations, wedeveloped a program that attracted more than 200 corporate counsel from 14 countries.

The two-day, sold-out event in Vancouver featured renowned speakers such as 2008 Nobel Prize Winner in Economics, Professor Paul Krugman and Professor Mervyn King, member of the Private Sector Advisory Group of the World Bank on Corporate Governance

What became clear in Vancouver was that the World Summit provided corporate counsel with an opportunity they wanted and needed: a gathering place to learn, to network and perhaps, most importantly, to converse with each other about the common issues and challenges that affect corporate counsel globally.

Building on the success ofour previous World Summit, we will host a second and expanded World Summit in September 2010 in Toronto.

Once again drawing on the premise that "our opportunities and challenges transcend borders, it's time our conversations did too," this World Summit will again provide a forum for corporate counsel to continue the kind of universal conversations begun in Vancouver.

Looking into the near future, we are in the process of building our inaugural online CCCA Community, partnering with Igloo, a company owned by Jim Balsillie of Research in Motion. Through the innovative use of Web 2.0 technology, we are creating an interactive and dynamic site that will unite our members coast-to-coast.
