NYCLA Legal Counseling Pro Bono Project

Monday, August 2, 2010 - 01:00

The New York County Lawyers Association is looking for volunteer members to participate in a legal counseling project.NYCLA members in good standing can volunteer to provide counseling to clients seeking advice in the areas of family, consumer bankruptcy, employment and landlord/tenant law at the NYCLA's Legal Counseling Project evening clinics.

On Tuesday, September 14, Part I of the project will begin with registration of volunteers for the program. Part II of the program is on Tuesday, September 21, and will offer further training. Registration, training and the program will be located at NYCLA at 14 Vesey Street in New York City.

No representation of any kind needs to be undertaken; clients are prepared during the clinics for pro se representation. Volunteers will be asked to review documents, answer questions, discuss concerns that the client should be aware of when entering into agreements, point out various methods whereby the client can either correct the problem or seek appropriate assistance and direction. Mentors will be provided by phone each clinic night to assist volunteer attorneys.
